At 60 pages, January’s issue of Conference & Common Room will be the biggest yet, reflecting the magazine’s excellent health as it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2013.

As well as important interviews with Ken Durham and Barnaby Lenon, chairmen of HMC and ISC respectively, Tom Wheare, the editor, has assembled articles on current crucial issues: pensions; the academies programme; university choices; governance, technology in the classroom; and school management.

There is coverage of HMC’s Conference at St Andrew’s, James Priory views events at St Paul’s, and Alistair Macnaughton reflects on Teaching and the Seven Virtues. Other articles look back as well as forward, there are book reviews, and Roger V Mobs manages to get himself suspended.

Conference & Common Room is the magazine for leading independent schools in the UK. It is published by John Catt Educational three times a year, at the start of each school term in September, January and April. Subscriptions are available from the John Catt Bookshop.
